The summer season and the holidays are meant to be enjoyed – so you shouldn’t feel too guilty if you treated yourself to good food or an extra serving of ice cream in the summer heat.

But all good things come to an end, and soon it’s going to be the time to start thinking about our health again, so here are some simple tips to help you get back in shape:

Don’t set bans for yourself‘

Forbidding’ yourself from eating something will just lead to more temptation. Treat yourself to the food you love in reasonable amounts every now and then.

Stock the pantry with healthy options

If you have eaten what you want and when you want during the summer, it is easy for cravings to linger. Make sure to have healthy snack options close at hand when you’re feeling a little hungry.

Find forms of exercise that you find fun

When you start exercising again, it’s easier to create a routine if you do something that feels fun. Do you hate running? Leave the running shoes on the shelf and try a session at the gym, swimming or something else that feels fun!

Don’t drink your calories

We all know know that soft drinks and milkshakes are high in calories. But what many may not think about is that even drinks that are marketed as ‘healthy’ often contain added sugar and a lot of calories. Replace these with water!

Lift heavier to become lighter

It’s quite common when it comes to weight loss to focus on cardio and forgo strength training. And yes, it’s true that you can gain weight from strength training as muscle weighs more than fat, but if it’s fat you want to get rid of, strength training can give you the extra push you need. Because the truth is that more muscle equals means more calories burning.

Shop smarter

Write a shopping list and stick to it. Planning your meals before going to the store reduces the risk of spontaneous, and not so useful, purchases. And remember – don’t shop when you’re hungry, it also increases the risk of less healthy options ending up in the shopping cart.

Good luck with your new training goals!
