Police officers wear a badge for a reason – it immediately establishes their identity and authority to act on behalf of the state. Similarly, when you are at work performing work-related duties and activities on behalf of your company, the identification you use must follow suit.

That is the purpose of a service ID – it separates your work identity from your private identity. Instead of being based on your personal information such as your personnummer, your service ID is based on a company-related identifier e.g. an organisation number.

The most recognisable form of service IDs are plastic cards, and, though a serviceable solution for physical contexts and situations, they have a crucial flaw. They cannot be used digitally, or, more precisely, for e-identification.

Freja solves both these problems. The organisation ID in Freja completely separates your private e-ID from your service e-ID, and can be used both for digital and physical identification.

Plastic Cards – not a Digital Solution

For identification at work and work-related duties, companies usually issue a plastic card adorned with the company’s name and logo, an appropriate colour scheme if there’s someone who cares enough about branding, and the employee’s name and picture. This establishes who the employee is, and the company they are part of or represent.

In the real world, the plastic card solution does offer a great deal of flexibility e.g. for identification within the company, to enter the company’s premises, or accessing restricted areas. It can be used externally as well to people outside the company, officials etc.

However, the issue becomes more complex when the identity of the employee needs to be established digitally.

Service e-identification for Digital Services

As passwords and usernames do not meet necessary security standards, e-identification is used in tandem with them to increase security. This comes into play whenever you as an employee need to access your company’s internal systems or log in to external services such as Microsoft Office 365.

As mentioned before, not only are you identifying yourself as a private individual when you are actually working on behalf of your company, this exposes you to unnecessary risk of data loss and fraud.

Freja Separates Your Private and Service e-ID

Freja’s Organisation ID creates a separate ‘work identity’ within Freja that is completely separate from your private e-ID. This work identity is based on data that is only relevant to your company, so when using it online, none of your personal data is at risk.

Secondly, all of this is contained in a mobile application, allowing great flexibility in use. Not only can you access online services, the ID cards in Freja can be used for physical identification.

This means that you can, for example, use your work ID card in Freja to enter your office. Then, you can also use Freja to log in to your company PC or internal system.

Finally, Freja is the only mobile service e-ID that is approved by the Swedish government’s Agency for Digital Government, contributing greatly from the standpoint of legitimacy and security of Freja as a service e-identification solution.
