After 2 years of travel restrictions, vaccination regulations and a plethora of entry requirements for different countries that were impossible to keep track of, everybody is just itching to finally be able to travel freely this summer.

For this reason, this summer season is expected to vastly outperform the previous 2 years. In practical terms, this means a huge number of people putting a massive strain on infrastructure and systems that are still recovering from the 2-year lull in activity.

That’s why we have compiled some useful tips to make your summer holiday this year as stress-free as possible.

Long Passport Waiting Times. What to Do?

Waiting times for getting a new passport are reaching 25 weeks. Suffice to say, you can’t wait that long if you’re planning a trip this year, or maybe even the next.

Don’t worry though, as using your national ID card to travel within the EU/EEA/Schengen is still a perfectly viable alternative to your passport.

If you haven’t got either, we’d like to remind you that booking your timeslot at the police is possible with Freja.

Long Waiting Times at the Airport

If you’re travelling by air, and especially Arlanda, be prepared for crowds and long waiting times. Apart from the standard holiday rush, Arlanda is suffering from staff shortages.

All of this can be overcome with a little bit of patience, good planning and our travel tips!

Check in online: Most airlines offer online check-in for their passengers. You may also upload any relevant/important documents in advance.

Arrive early: Give yourself time to pass through all of the required security checks, luggage check-in etc.

Given the difficult situation, it is recommended you arrive at least 3 hours before your flight to be on the safe side.

Use the automated check-in machines: This will reduce the workload on the airport staff and will result in your checking in quicker.

Have all of your documentation ready: Apart from your passport/national ID and depending on where you are travelling to, you might need to prepare some extra documentation to travel.

Additionally, you may need a valid Covid certificate and/or PCR test. Find information about Covid certificates at covidbevis.se where you can log in with Freja!

Terminal 4 at Arlanda: If you’re travelling with Ryanair, chances are you will be travelling from Terminal 4 at Arlanda.

Terminal 4 is now also intended for domestic and international flights as it is connected to Terminal 5.

NOTE! You may use the Terminal 4 security check point even if you’re travelling from Terminal 5. However, this only applies to passengers with hand luggage.

Covid Regulations

For Swedish citizens, a valid Covid certificate should suffice for travel with the EU/EAA/Schengen countries including Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. If you’re not vaccinated, a negative test or recovery certificate should also suffice for travel.

Again, we recommend that you check all information around the Covid certificate on covidbevis.se.

Don’t forget that you can log in to covidbevis.se with Freja, and that you can store your Covid certificate in Freja!

Have a safe and fun summer from Freja, you deserve it!
