You get your digital ID card automatically as soon as your identity is verified in Freja and, like the rest of the app, is completely free to use.
As Freja is a government-approved mobile e-ID, we are always working on making sure that Freja is easy and safe for you to use. There are many security features and checks to make sure that you are protected.
Freja’s Digital ID Card
The digital ID card is an integral part of Freja. You get it just by completing the regular registration steps and identity verification in the app. This verification step is necessary to unlock more features in the app.
After we verify your identity in Freja with your ID document and photo, your digital ID card will appear on Freja’s home screen, with some of your data such as your name already visible.
Tap on the card to interact with it and open a more detailed version of your ID card that you can either show or let somebody scan for identification.
How to Use Your Digital ID Card
You may use Freja whenever a proof of identity and/or age is required e.g. when buying age-restricted products, picking up a package or prescription medicine etc.
Show – in certain situations, showing the screen will be enough to establish your identity and/or age.
Scan – in cases when your data needs to be processed e.g. for getting loyalty points, you’ll need to show your screen and let the clerk scan your QR code. The Freja QR code works with any regular cash register scanner.

Share – you can also share this data via SMS, social media, email etc. by tapping the ‘Share my data’ button. The other person doesn’t need to have Freja to see what you shared.
Multi-layered Security
We are constantly working on making Freja safer to use without sacrificing user friendliness. The digital ID card in Freja functions as an ID document and should be treated and protected as such.
The process of identity verification required to get the digital ID card already includes a thorough identity check by our security team to ensure that the data there is valid.
The main security features are as follows:
Secure access – once the ID card is generated, it can only be accessed via your PIN or biometrics.
Data expiration – within the card itself, the QR code that includes your data expires after 2 minutes to protect your data.
Interactive screen – the ID card’s screen is fully interactive with animations and sounds that prove that the card is authentic and live in the app.
On the other hand, our partners have access to a security portal where they can always check the authenticity of each ID card if they suspect any type of fraud.
