Adding your ID document and photo to Freja opens up many possibilities and features in the app. But what happens if the ID document you added to Freja expires? Does another one need to be added? Does your Freja account expire with it?

Let’s cover the basics first.

Why We Need Your ID Document

We don’t store your ID document in Freja, we use it together with your photo to verify your identity. This data is then used to generate your digital ID card in Freja.

Your digital ID card contains: your name, age, social security no. and photo.

Your digital ID card is valid for 5 years even if the ID document you used expires in the meantime.

You Don’t Need to Add ID Documents to Freja again

Very simply: after we verify you once, you don’t need to add new ID documents to Freja.

What Happens after 5 Years

Five years after verification, you will receive a message in the app asking you whether you would like to continue using Freja.

All you need to do is to confirm and your Freja ID card will be renewed for another 5 years.

You still don’t need to add new ID documents, or redo any of the registration steps that you did when creating your Freja account.

More than 1 ID Document in Freja

Currently it is not possible to store ID documents in Freja for the purpose of identification. The Freja ID card is not a stored instance of your driver’s licence, passport, national ID etc. even though it is accepted at many places as a valid ID.

We are working on making it possible to identify yourself with Freja at more and more locations across Sweden.

In Summary

After we verify you for the first time, you never need to add your ID document to Freja again.

Your digital ID card in Freja is valid for 5 years.

After 5 years we will ask for you approval through the Freja app to renew your digital ID card for another 5 years.
